Opportunities for STAR Participants

At STARability Foundation, creativity knows no bounds and inclusivity takes the stage. Our diverse range of classes open doors to a realm of possibilities for people of all abilities. Each class is carefully crafted to cater to the unique strengths and abilities of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. The benefits extend far beyond the classroom, enriching lives and creating a more inclusive community.

STAR CONNECTIONS

Music Explorers

Through a variety of fun and interactive music activities, enrolled STAR participants will explore the joy of music. STARability’s year-round music exploration class provides a supportive opportunity for participants to enhance their music awareness while fostering social connections. Weekly music exploration activities are led by experienced, local musicians. Each class promotes musical creativity, awareness, collaboration, rhythm, and appreciation.

Art Class

Discover the joy of self-expression through a variety of artistic mediums in a supportive and fun environment. STARability’s year-round art class provides a safe space for participants to enhance their creativity while fostering social connections. Experienced, local artists teach various techniques and themed crafts on a weekly basis. Each project promotes originality, confidence, visual learning, decision-making, collaboration, perseverance, fine motor skills and the joy of creating.

STAR CONNECTIONS

Cooking Class

Experience a fun-filled culinary journey where delicious meals and valuable life skills are shared among peers. STARability’s cooking class, led by dedicated volunteer Sandra Smith, is the perfect blend of healthy cooking and camaraderie. Participants of all abilities join in crafting a multi-course meal while learning about nutrition, safety and teamwork. Sandra’s extensive background in social work ensures tailored guidance, making every session a rewarding experience.

Improv & Musical Theater

Take center stage for Improv & Musical Theater! Led by Craig Price, award-winning director of community education and wellness for The Naples Players, this class guides participants through fun and essential artistic exercises. These interactive lessons provide STARs the opportunity to unleash their creativity through imagination, improve social and communication skills, and build confidence.

Garden Club

No green thumb required! Participate in hands-on activities and mini lessons centered around all things plants and nature in our THRIVEability community garden. In addition, you will experience the sensory delights of touching various textures and smelling fragrant blooms at the fully accessible space at River Park Community Center.

Garden Club is held twice a month (Jan. – April) and open to all enrolled STARability participants. $10 per session.

Career Explorations

Career Explorations will provide participants with a valuable opportunity to explore different industries through activities such as researching interests, roleplaying scenarios, listening to guest speakers and engaging in hands-on activities. It enables individuals to gain insights into potential careers that may interest them and is highly recommended for those who are considering their future career paths.

Life Enrichment Class

Share in each other’s challenges and triumphs with STARability’s Life Enrichment. This program is designed to foster personal growth, independence and facilitate lifelong learning for our STARs. Our curriculum is focused on each participant’s individual goals and varies, but current focus areas are: health & wellness, life skills, science and much more.

Connections

We exist to support and empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. STAR participants connect and engage with the community through continuing education, art and creative expression workshops, health and wellness classes, sports leagues and many other activities.
