Congratulations to Marie Hernandez Rubenstein, STAR Gala committee and STARability supporter, for your honor as a 2020 Gulfshore Business 40 under 40! Hear from Marie below, and read the article here.
Congratulations, Marie! What does this honor of 40 Under 40 mean to you?
“To me, the recognition means that each of us can make an impact in our community if we set our mindset in the right direction. It means I can look at my three boys and say confidently, -‘You can be whatever you want to be as long as you work hard and do what you love.’ The award is truly an honor, and I am grateful for every mentor, coworker, friend and family member who has played an important role in helping me evolve into who I am today.”
Can you share with us what STARability means to you?
“When I first moved to Naples, we attended several events in season, one of them being the STAR Gala. As a mom of a son diagnosed on the spectrum, I knew attending the event would have a close connection to my heart. As I heard Laura Georgelos (event chair that year) share her speech and journey as a mother of a participant, I held back tears of joy and tears of sorrow. I firsthand understand the challenges of a parent with a child on the spectrum, but listening to Laura gave me hope, and I immediately knew that I had found a home at the STARability Foundation. Shortly after the event, I met [Executive Director] Karen Govern and [Board Vice President] Carrie Cooney, two women in the community I admire and look up to. In short, STARability means to me hope for a future, a bright future, and a home for my family. It is why I am honored to serve on your committee because I know the road you pave today impacts the present families and the many that will follow in the years to come.”
What are your next goals and visions for continuing to help our community?
“I have a passion for giving back and for planning events. I think the combination of both of those in our community can lead to powerful and memorable waves that can impact and make a difference. We truly are blessed to live in a community that embraces giving back and making a difference. I want to be a part of that; I want to make a difference. One that my kids can look back on and say, “Yep, that’s my mom.”
