A majority of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities want to work, but statistics show they have a difficult time finding a job.
• Only 33% of adults with disabilities in Florida were working in 2017. In other words, two out of three adults with disabilities in the state didn’t have a job.
• 25% of adults who received help from the Florida agency Vocational Rehabilitation got a job.
• 39% of adults with disabilities who are not working would like to.
The STARability Foundation is like a matchmaker for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and employers who believe in an inclusive workplace.
As an approved provider for the Florida Department of Education Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), we offer job readiness services and connect individuals with local employers and job training sites. Our dedicated Vocational Services Manager, Halley Kretschmer, who is certified through VR and the State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), provides comprehensive services such as an initial consultation, a skills inventory and on-the-job coaching.
VR services are available to all STAR participants and any individuals seeking community employment.
