National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and is celebrated the third week of April. This week, is an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, to build stronger communities and be a force that transforms the world.

STARability Foundation believes that our growing team of supporters empower the people with intellectual and developmental disabilities we serve to learn, grow, and engage to achieve independence. Because of you, our STAR participants thrive and pursue their passions. This week, we express our gratitude to the volunteers who support our mission and vision.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.

Not a day goes by that the STARability team doesn’t acknowledge the power of our volunteers. We truly couldn’t accomplish all that we have without them. During National Volunteer Week, we thank you for transforming the lives of individuals with disabilities in our Southwest Florida community and beyond. The time you give and the services you provide are simply invaluable.

OUR VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP
STARability is lucky to have a dedicated board that brings expertise and vision to further the mission of our organization. Currently, we have 11 board members. Each member brings a unique skill set and perspective that helps expand programming to create live, work and engage opportunities for our STARs. Meet our board of directors here.

Volunteers are essential to our success. Volunteering with us is a rewarding and fun opportunity! Each person chooses activities that fit their interest and schedule. A few ways our volunteers create impact include:

  • Helping to organize a basketball or bowling game
  • Assisting with an art or cooking class
  • Engaging with our participants at social events
  • Event support at a fundraiser
