STARability Foundation celebrates 10 years of Trailblazer Academy
STARability Foundation Celebrates 10 Years of Trailblazer Academy at 9th Annual Run, Walk & Roll 5K on Oct. 17
A family- and pet-friendly inclusive event for all ages and abilities!
STARability Foundation invites the Southwest Florida community to lace up their shoes and celebrate inclusion at the 9th Annual Run, Walk & Roll 5K on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Baker Park in Naples. Inspired Closets SWFL returns as presenting sponsor for the fourth consecutive year, with Madison Nehls, chief program officer and event chair, leading the milestone event.
The race begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by an after-party featuring local vendors, food trucks, live entertainment and family-friendly activities. Registration is $45 and includes an official event T-shirt, finisher medal and access to the post-race celebration. Ages 12 and younger participate for free.
This year’s event is especially meaningful as STARability celebrates the 10th anniversary of Trailblazer Academy and a decade of creating opportunities, building independence and empowering individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities to achieve their personal and professional goals. Current and former participants, families, staff, volunteers, donors and community partners are invited to commemorate this milestone and the lives transformed by STARability’s innovative programming.
“Over the years, the Run, Walk & Roll 5K has united our community in celebration of inclusion, acceptance and ability,” said Karen Govern, CEO of STARability Foundation. “This year, we’re also honoring an incredible milestone for 10 years of our Trailblazer Academy and the countless lives that have been transformed through opportunity, friendship and purpose. Whether you run, walk, roll or cheer from the sidelines, every participant helps create a more inclusive community where individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities can reach their full potential.”
As STARability’s second-largest annual fundraiser, the Run, Walk & Roll 5K brings together hundreds of participants for an inclusive, family- and dog-friendly day of fun, connection and celebration. Every step taken and every dollar raised supports innovative programs that empower individuals throughout Southwest Florida to build meaningful relationships, engage in their communities and thrive. Last year’s event welcomed more than 500 participants and raised more than $90,000 in support of STARability’s mission.
“The Run, Walk & Roll 5K is more than a race; it’s a celebration of the accomplishments our STARs achieve every day,” said Nehls. “We invite everyone who has been part of STARability’s journey to join us as we recognize this milestone together while helping create even more opportunities for the future.”
Proceeds from the event directly support STARability’s innovative programs and services, including vocational training, workforce development, continuing education, health and wellness initiatives, community engagement and social opportunities that promote confidence, independence and lifelong success.
Participants are encouraged to take advantage of this year’s “Find Your Five, Save Together!” promotion. Register five participants in the same transaction, and the fifth registration receives 50% off. It’s a great opportunity for families, friends, coworkers and community groups to celebrate together while making an even greater impact.
Businesses and organizations can also get involved through sponsorship and vendor opportunities. Event sponsors receive valuable community visibility while supporting STARability’s mission, and vendors have the opportunity to connect with hundreds of attendees during the post-race celebration.
To guarantee an official 2026 STARability Run, Walk & Roll 5K T-shirt, participants must register by Sept. 19. The event will be held rain or shine, and participants are encouraged to bring along their four-legged family members to enjoy the festivities.
