STARability Cup raises more than $380,000

STARability Foundation’s second annual STARability Cup Charity Golf Tournament was a resounding success, raising more than $380,000 to support its innovative and transformative programs for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. Held at The Club at TwinEagles on April 15, the event welcomed 216 golfers who competed across both the Talon and Eagle courses for a day of spirited play, camaraderie and community impact.

Hosted by event chairs Craig and Barbara Fike and presented in partnership with TwinEagles and Radiant Wealth Management of Raymond James, the tournament built upon the momentum of its inaugural year, significantly increasing both participation and funds raised.

“We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support from our community,” said Karen Govern, CEO of STARability Foundation. “This year’s STARability Cup not only exceeded our expectations but also reinforced the power of coming together to create meaningful opportunities for the participants and families we serve.”

A highlight of this year’s event was the debut of the helicopter ball drop, which brought added excitement to the day. Long-time supporter H.L. Burkley was the lucky winner, as dozens of golf balls were dropped onto the course in a thrilling conclusion to the tournament.

In addition to on-course contests, golfers competed for top honors across both flights. In the Talon Flight, the team “Fore Ability Champs” claimed first place with an impressive score of -25, followed by “Fab Fore” in second place (-23) and “Ryan Simmone” in third (-21). Individual contest winners included Josh Sparks for closest to the pin on holes No. 2 and No. 5, Kim Wagner for women’s longest drive and Dante Disabato for men’s longest drive.

In the Eagle Flight, the team “The Water Hazards” secured first place with a score of -25, followed closely by “Bailey’s Bunch” in second place (-24) and “Team 810” in third. Individual contest winners included Dave Skarbek for closest to the pin on holes No. 8 and No. 17, Janet Vartinen for women’s longest drive and William Blum for men’s longest drive.

Adding a meaningful touch to the tournament experience, several player gifts and prizes, including a golf-themed candle, were handcrafted by participants in STARability’s STAR Studio, highlighting the talents and contributions of the individuals the event supports.

Proceeds from the STARability Cup will support the organization’s comprehensive programming, which focuses on vocational training, continuing education, life skills and community engagement for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Following the tournament, participants gathered for an awards ceremony and reception to celebrate the day’s achievements and collective impact.
