STARability partners with Naples Zoo to offer Disability Inclusion Training
STARability Foundation recently partnered with Naples Zoo to provide a comprehensive Disability Inclusion Training designed to help foster more accessible, inclusive and welcoming environments for individuals of all abilities. The training was facilitated by STARability’s Career Services team and further strengthened a longstanding partnership between the two nonprofit organizations.
The training focused on workplace inclusion and accessibility, covering topics such as person-first language, disability awareness and education, accessibility and universal design, and best practices for creating supportive workplace environments. Participants also explored the many benefits of inclusion, including stronger workplace culture, enhanced customer experiences and increased community engagement.
The collaboration reflects STARability’s ongoing commitment to expanding opportunities for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities while helping community organizations build more inclusive spaces.
“Partnerships like this demonstrate the power of inclusion in action,” said Madison Nehls, chief program officer for STARability Foundation. “Naples Zoo has been an incredible vocational partner for many years, creating meaningful opportunities for our participants to volunteer, build confidence and engage with the community. Through these trainings, we can continue educating local organizations and helping create environments where individuals of all abilities feel welcomed, valued and empowered.”
The partnership between STARability and Naples Zoo spans more than a decade and has created lasting opportunities for participants in STARability’s Trailblazer Academy. One participant, Brett C., has dedicated approximately 14 years of volunteer service at Naples Zoo, exemplifying the meaningful impact inclusive vocational experiences can have on individuals and the broader community.
In addition to supporting volunteer and vocational opportunities, STARability’s Career Services team continues to develop trainings and workforce inclusion initiatives aimed at helping local businesses and organizations better understand accessibility and inclusion practices.
