STARability Partners with Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center for ‘Divergent Inspiration’

STARability Foundation is excited to partner with Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center to host a special group art show. ‘Divergent Inspiration – an Inclusive Art Exhibit by STARability Foundation’ opens on Friday, May 3 in the Grand Atrium of the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in downtown Fort Myers and runs through May. The exhibit features artwork created by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities from the STARability community. Artwork will also be available for sale.

‘Divergent Inspiration’ sponsored by Marcus Jansen Foundation encourages visitors and art lovers to see life and art from a totally new perspective: the viewpoint of STARability Foundation’s participants. This space-themed exhibit will help guests appreciate the therapeutic, skill-building and life-enhancing process of making art.

“This exhibit is the perfect opportunity to introduce our organization and STARs to a new and different area as we continue expanding in the region,” said Karen Govern, CEO of STARability Foundation. “Art has always been a valuable tool and meaningful way for our STARs to express their emotions and represent themselves. Everyone perceives the world in a unique way, whether we are considered to have a disability or not. Having this opportunity from Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center to share their views with the community is a profound step in our mission to create an inclusive community for our STARs to shine.”

All art pieces showcased in the exhibit were made in STARability’s STAR Connections, Trailblazer Academy and Jr. Trailblazer Academy art classes. Pieces made by individual STARs in classes and studio workshops were hand selected for the display. Many of the larger masterpieces that will be featured during the exhibit were created in collaboration, whether during one-on-one sessions with local professional artists or in peer groups of STAR participants.
