What started as six families meeting weekly at a local bowling alley has grown into three STARability Bowling League opportunities for dozens of STAR participants. Ask any STARability bowler and they will tell you they never want to miss this fun program.
How did the Bowling League come to be? In 1985, a group of parents were looking for a quality recreational program for their young adult children with developmental disabilities. When they learned that none existed, they decided to create one. These leagues have become a great place for STAR participants and their families to network and form lifelong friendships, in addition to enjoying the other physical and mental benefits of bowling.
Bowling League runs year-round, but scores are tracked only in season, October through May. (To qualify for a trophy at the annual Bowling Banquet, participants must bowl at least 15 days during season when scores are tracked.) STAR volunteers Stacy Bolesky and Kathy Crevier coordinate three fun leagues across two different locations, and participants can join at any time during the year.
The STARability Bowling League is sponsored by the Bonita Springs Lions Club. Thank you, Bonita Lions!
Bowling is open to all STARability participants.
